Australian euphonium virtuoso Matt van Emmerik commissioned the piece, which is a theme and variations based on the Paganini Caprice no. 24 for solo violin. Although many composers have used the tune in a variation format, my version brings a few contemporary music styles to the table. Matt has premiered the work in all versions, all around the world
